Collector Adjudication Ambreen Tarar issues on import of potatoes

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Collector Ambreen Ahmed Tarar has issued a show cause notice to importer of non duty paid potatoes.

According to the details, that during scrutiny of import data of M/s Umar and Company (NTN2485646) it was revealed that the above mentioned company imported 53 consignments of potatoes during 26.6.2014 to 6.8.2014.

Customs Post Clearance Audit through an audit observation dated 4.11.2015, pointed out the short levy of sales tax during the intervening period of rescinding the SRO 549(I)/2008 dated 11.6.2008 through SRO 573/(I)/2014 dated 26.6.2014 has clarified that no exemption of sales tax was available during the period 26.6.2014 on the import of potatoes. Therefore, the same should be recovered from the importer.  Thus the importer with the connivance of clearing agent deliberately deprived the national exchequer Rs9,687,338/- (on account of sales tax Rs8,234.237/-).

The Customs Adjudication Collector directed the management of M/s Umar and Company to clear the outstanding amount at the earliest, othwerwise stern action will be taken against the company which will led attachment of bank accounts and seizure of movable and immovable property.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Adjudication authorities expedited their efforts to conclude the hearing of pending cases on priority basis.
