Sara-i-Muhajir FIU seizes smuggled items during road checking

MIANWALI: The Customs Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) Sarai Muhajir has confiscated smuggled goods worth Rs67,66,128 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs11,80,845 during road checking.

Sources told Customs Today that the intelligence team following the directions of Deputy Director Syed Ittrat Hussain conducted raid to foil smuggling attempt in the region.

The Customs Intelligence team impounded trailer bearing registration no: JU-8432 near Sarai Muhajir district Bhakkar loaded with used computer 788 sets, computer system 165-sets, used LCD monitors 570 pieces, used laptop with hard disk 28 pieces, used Laser Jet printer 20 pieces, laptop bags 217 pieces and others of different brand and sizes.

The officials asked the driver Muhammad Rafique son of Barkat Ali to show documents regarding legal import of the items. He produced a Goods Declaration (GD) no: KPPI-HC- 75600 dated 28-04-2017 showing clearance of computers systems etc from Port Qasim by M/s Madni Computer System issued by M/s Ahsan Enterprises Goods Transport Company.

The officials found discrepancies while examining the documents and recovered goods; therefore, they confiscated items under Section 18, 32 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1969.

The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Tahir, Intelligence Officers, Muhammad Saleem, and Sepoy Liaqat Ali, Shaukat Hayat, Muhammad Iqbal, Muzamil Hussain, Israr Ahmed participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
