LHC stops tax collection thru electricity bill till refund decision taken

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has restrained the tax authorities from the tax collection through electricity bill till the decision of tax refund is taken.

Justice Jawad Hassan heard the complaint filed by the Mughal Steel and other parties. During the proceeding, counsel for appellant Muhammad Mohsin Virk advocate argued before the court that, according to the notification of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), it is compulsory to refund the tax till August 15.

He added that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is delaying tax refund deliberately and tax is also collected through electricity bill. He prayed the court that honorable court may kindly stop the tax collection through electricity bill till the order is given on the tax refund.

After hearing the arguments from the complainant, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the tax collection through electricity bill till the decision on the refund cases is made. The Lahore High Court (LHC) also seeks reply from all the relevant parties.
