KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations Quetta expedited its efforts to check the smuggling. The collectorate seized smuggling items worth Rs 7.21million during 14 days of August. The goods confiscated include plastic powder, large quantity of hashish, computer accessories, Iranian diesel, break oil, plastic Dana and other different items.
Sources told the reporter that Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Junaid Mehmood received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle electronic items, including German made data bank, non-duty-paid commercial cameras, laptops and refrigerators, from Quetta into different cities.
He immediately constituted a raiding team. The team enhanced the vigilance in the area of Bara Market and started a searching operation of some shops and godowns of Bara Market. After a while, the team executed a raid on a shop and impounded 500 non-duty-paid data bank, 500 commercial cameras, 50 laptops, 20 non-duty-paid refrigerators, some electronic key boards and mouses valued at Rs 2.6 million.
The team confiscated all the said electronic items and held the shop owner. Sources said Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Junaid Mehmood is holding the consultation meetings on daily basis with officers and giving guidelines to them to arrest the illegal business of smuggling. Sources said it was the 6th raid in the month of September.
Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta seized a heavy non-duty-paid commercial generator and commercial molding machines some five days ago and apprehended two persons, including a godown owner, and registered an FIR. The value of the said confiscated goods is Rs4.5million.
