Alleged cloth-smuggler handed over to customs authorities on two-day physical remand

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has handed over an accused to customs authorities on a physical remand for two days on Tuesday.

The customs court has directed the authorities of customs investigation and prosecution to complete the investigation within the given time and present the accused before the court for further proceeding.

Accused Juma Khan was arrested by the customs intelligence on the charges of smuggling of cloths. After the arrest, Pakistan Customs Intelligence started an investigation against him and got his physical remand as well. The customs authorities arrested him from Lahore.

The customs intelligence had recovered a huge quantity of foreign made smuggling cloths and related goods from his possession.

The customs intelligence has told the court that accused is involved in smuggling of cloths from different countries into Shadman Market of Lahore and Faisalabad via different routes. The value of the recovered cloths is Rs2million. He has been involved in smuggling for long time.

The customs investigation team presented him before the customs A two-day remand was granted by Customs Judge Tahir Sabir. After the completion of a two-day physical remand, he will be presented before the court for further proceeding.

Pakistan Customs has registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.
