MULTAN: Multan Tax Bar Association (MTBA) has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend last date for filing of income tax returns up to December 31.

President Multan Tax bar Association Shabbir Fakharuddin has appreciated the FBR’s current efforts for broadening of tax base. This is first time in the history of Federal Board of Revenue that chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha, especially Nausheen Javaid Amjad and Khawaja Adnan Zahir are making concerted efforts in creating awareness under the “outreach program” regarding filing of tax returns among non-filers.

The low tax base has put undeniable burden on the existing taxpayers and gravely impacted the tax to GDP ratio. The tax facilitation of the existing taxpayers and simplification of various tax laws and procedures are important areas that require government’s attention as well.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has done various amendments and fundamental changes after the introduction of income tax return and Wealth Statement Forms 2017, which were finalized and uploaded on the Web-Portal “IRIS System” after the deadline of the tax returns i.e. and almost 2 days earlier the deadline of September 30.

It is pertinent to mention here that the prescribed time granted under the law i.e. Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001for filing/ e-filing of the tax return along with Wealth Statement Form for the taxpayers fall under the FTR and Salaried Class is August 31.

It is also undeniable fact that the tax consultants of the bar are putting extra efforts to perform their professional and national duty i.e. to prepare and finalize the tax returns and wealth statements in order to complete the work.

However, MTBA feel that they would not be able to meet the deadline of the October 31, to file 100% returns of their current and prospective clients, which is a matter of great concern.

Multan Tax Bar Association has requested extend the date for filling of tax returns up to 30th November, 2017 in order to maximize the number of filers through outreach program and to facilitate the existing taxpayers of the country, who are regularly contributing into the national exchequer as their moral and legal obligation for better and prosperous Pakistan.
