NAB Court sends suspects to jail in tax refund scam

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Court has sent the suspects, Luqman Javed and Abdul Hameed Agar, to Central Jail Karachi on a judicial remand. The were booked in a case of illegal sales tax refund and had caused a loss of Rs 120 million to the national exchequer.

During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspects before the NAB court and informed that they were arrested yesterday from different areas of Karachi, and that they were the beneficiaries of illegal sales tax refund and were nominated in Reference in which DC FBR Abdul Rauf Nasir was arrested on October 25, 2017.

He further informed the court that accused persons are receivers of proceeds of offence they committed by managing tax refunds on the basis of fake and bogus invoices, incurring loss of Rs 120 million in connivance with other accused persons.

After the hearing, court sent them to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them within reasonable period.
