SHC directs parties to file comments on petition filed by M/s KATYS

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed parties to file their respective para wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by M/s KATYS against assessment of its consignments of copper filter dryers (a component of refrigerators) under Valuation Ruling no1103/2017 dated 21/03/2017. A two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omer Sial was hearing the petition.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is engaged in the business of import and supply of various types of copper filter dryers (a component of refrigerators) imported from Italy.

According to the petitioner, it is seriously aggrieved and prejudiced by the actions of the respondents whereby the officials of the customs department or en-route of copper filter dryers and demanding duties and taxes as the basis of valuation ruling no 1103/ 2017 dated 21/03/2017 without lawful authority.

Citing Secretary Revenue Division, DG Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Collector of Customs Collectorate Appraisement East, Collector of Customs Collectorate Appraisement Port Muhammad Bin Qasim as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary and restrain them from taking any action against it.
