Appraisement East uncovers tax evasion of Rs3.45m during clearance of chairs

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East has unearthed a tax evasion of Rs3.45million during the clearance of executive chairs and different office accessories imported by M/s Shana Furniture’s Karachi.

A source told reporter that Collector Appraisement East Ashad Jawad directed the R&D Section to verify the post clearance consignments of importer M/s Shana Furniture’s Karachi.

During the scrutiny, it was found that the said importer willfully used Green Channel in the clearance of consignments of executive chairs and different office accessories and caused the kitty a loss of Rs3.45million in forms of duty and taxes.

The sources further informed CT that a recovery notice has been sent to the importer. The R&D sources said the importer has also assured that it will deposit the evaded amount into the treasury within seven days.

Earlier, Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East has unearthed the tax evasion of Rs7.24million during the clearance of different kinds of jewellery imported by M/s Safdar Ornaments and Supplies.

Source said the Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East and Director Asshad Jawwad investigated more than 12 cases of tax evasion.
