LAHORE: Senator Seher Kamran on Saturday lauded Pakistan Army, Navy and Maritime Security Agency for appointing a special security division for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to ensure security of waters around Gwadar port.
She said that if the country wanted to get maximum benefit of the strategic location of the deep-sea port, immediate development of Pakistan Navy for an effective seaward defence was a must.
She said that trade between Pakistan and China was recorded at US$16 billion in 2015. “CPEC can increase the trade volume to billions of dollars at this port,” she added. Senator Seher Kamran said that keeping in view the enhanced spectrum of threats from adversaries, there was a dire need to augment the capabilities of Pakistan Navy and Maritime Security Agency to fulfil the needs of a multilayered defence system for an effective seaward defence of CPEC and Gwadar Port.
