FBR chairman approves early retirement of six officials on charges of corruption, misconduct

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha has approved pre-mature retirement of six officials. All these officials were found involved in corruption and misconduct. The accountability process within the board is very transparent and strong , sources said.

The name of the officials are Additional Commissioner Banda Ali Memon, Assistant Collector Aftab Ahmed Khan, Principal Appraiser Khalid Shahab Ansari, Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Superintendent Waqar Ahmad Cheema and Principal Appraiser Qaisar Khan Looni. They were retired as punishment on the charges of corruption and misconduct during the last five years.

According to details provided by the FBR, the disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Banda Ali Memon on account of unauthorized absence from duty from 333 days. A show cause notice was issued to him. On the basis of the show cause notice, a major penalty of compulsory retirement from service was imposed upon Memon.

Sources said that disciplinary proceedings were also initiated against Assistant Collector Aftab Ahmad Khan on account of inefficiency, misconduct and corruption. The inquiry officer proved and established charges of corruption. Likewise Principle Appraiser Khalid Shahab Ansari was also founded involved in unauthorized absence and incorrect ACRs signed by the officers other than the reporting countersigning officer.

Moreover, the accused obtained passport without seeking prior approval from the department. While disciplinary proceedings were also initiated against Superintendent Zahid Raza Bukhari, Waqar Ahmad Cheema and Principle Appraiser Khalid Shahab Ansari were charged on account of irregularities committed in implementation vehicle Amnesty Scheme 2013. Major penalty of removal of service was also imposed on them. Upon departmental appeal the appellate authority converted their penalty into compulsory retirement.

It is also necessary to mention here that FBR Chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Member Customs Zahid Mehmood Khakar directed stern action against all those officials and employees who found involved in corruption.
