Khan said that in times to come, e-payment module would definitely be instrumental in bringing about revolutionary changes in the tax collection mechanism which has to be aligned with the vision of the State Bank of Pakistan for year 2020 that aims at facilitating taxpayers at large. He said that e-payment system will facilitate taxpayers.

The participants were of the view that this session will help business community get knowledge and awareness about the newly developed E-Payment Module which will be formally launched at the end of December 2017.

Former LCCI President Aftab Ahmed Vohra said that the chamber has been making persistent efforts to make the government realize that it is the need of the hour to revamp the whole taxation system. “We have always demanded that the numbers and frequency of taxes have to be reduced and the taxpayers should have the options to pay taxes online,” he said.

He said that now tax liabilities can be discharged through credit cards and from anywhere. One thing is important to be shared with you that there is a factor called “paying taxes” which contributes in determining the overall ranking of a country in terms of ease of doing business. Pakistan’s ranking in Paying Taxes plunged by 16 notches to 172, as compared to 156 last year.

There are 47 different types of taxes in Pakistan as compared to 13 in India. The time consumed to pay these 47 taxes is 311 hours in Pakistan as compared to 168 hours in Sri Lanka for the same number of taxes.
