Quetta Customs Intelligence seizes charas worth Rs20m

QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation, acting on a tipoff, has seized a huge quantity of foreign-origin charas, which was being smuggled through a car.

The I&I officials tried to stop a Toyota Corolla car near Baloki Check Post, Butims University Quetta, but the driver attempted to flee. After observing the Customs officials, who were chasing the suspicious vehicle, the driver managed to escape. The car was brought to the office of the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta.

A thorough search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses which led to the recovery of 220kg charas concealed beneath the floor and dashboard/seats of the vehicle. No registration book was recovered during the search of said car. Intelligence officer Shabbir Ahmed and sepoy Baz Muhammad played a vital role in the case. The approximate value of the seized charas is Rs20 million in the international market.
