Additional Collector Zahra Haider declares seizure of Toyota Hilux Surf as legal

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Zahra Haider has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) No 06/2017.

According to the details, Anti Smuggling Organization intercepted a Toyota Hilux Surf (SRRX) bearing registration plate number MD-070 (Islamabad) near Kalma Chowk Ferozpur Road Lahore. The person available on the driving seat claimed the ownership of the above said jeep and introduced himself as Mudassar Zubair son of Zubair Fareed resident of Cavalry Ground Lahore. On demand the said owner failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle.

Initially the said vehicle was detained under section 2 (kk) of Customs Act, 1969 for ant of import documents. During the course of investigation, a notice vide letter No. C01/ASO-153/2017/1224 was issued to the said owner under section 26 of Customs Act, 1969 requiring therein documents pertaining to legal importof the said vehicle but the said owner did not turn up even after a laps of sufficient time. The said Surf was referred to the Punjab Forensic Sciency Agency Lahore for examination of its chassis frame vide.  The vehicle was found tempered and welded.

In view of above it is crystal clear that the detained Toyota Hilux Surf bearing chassis number RZN215-0010087 was plying on road with fake registration mark and brought into the country in breah of the restrictions and prohibitions for the time being for force by evading duty and taxes leviable thereon. Therefore the sae was seized vide Custos Act, 1969.
