ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The court adjourned the hearing into the corruption references against the Sharif family until December 4. Nawaz Sharif, who had reached the accountability court amid tight security, requested the investigators to adjourn the hearing until the Islamabad High Court announces its verdict in a petition pertaining to the clubbing of references.

Moreover, Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris also could not make it to the court proceedings today following which the hearing was adjourned.

Earlier in November, the IHC had reserved its judgement on a petition filed by the ousted premier to club the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against him.

The latest plea filed by Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday maintained that the IHC did not announce a short order in a bid to avoid confusion and so the case be adjourned until December 4.

Captain (r) Safdar hoped that the IHC would give its verdict in the current month but insisted, if there was a delay, the hearing could be held continuously during the next two-three days.

The NAB prosecutor, however, objected to Nawaz’s request and said that the high couth had not given a stay order and so the case could not be adjourned. He said the witnesses, who had appeared on behalf of NAB for the hearing, should be allowed to record their statements. Yet, the accountability court rejected the prosecutor’s request as it adjourned the hearing until December 4.
