Customs Car Cell takes into possession Corolla on an actionable tip-off

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Car Cell Islamabad impounded a Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) Axio Toyota Corolla vehicle valued at Rs1.5million from Rawalpindi.

According to details explained by sources of the Customs Car Cell that, on a tip-off shared by Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, that an NDP vehicle is roaming in the Rawalpindi with tampered status.

The Customs Car Cell formed a mobile squad and set up a picket at Sadder Bazaar Rawalpindi. The cell intercepted the Axio Toyota corolla car, Model 2004, with a fake number plate. After the interception, the customs officials asked the possessor to show any documentary proof but he was unable to do so.
Sources told CT that the Car Cell took into possession the vehicle under Customs Act-1969 and brought it to the State Ware House where they made seizure case and forwarded it the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department for further action. The sources added that the Car Cell impounded four NDP vehicles worth Rs5.36million during the month of May Financial Year 2016-17.

He further told CT that the Car Cell is performing well and impounded 17 NDP vehicles during first five months (July to 28 November) FY17-18. Sources added that, during first five months of current Financial Year 2017-18, the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad took total 99 offending and Non-Duty-Paid vehicles into possession which value at Rs169.00million.
Sources notify the public that the Car Cell is well-equipped with all the latest techniques that help make seizures. Sources also told CT that, under the guidance of Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector MCC Islamabad, the performance of the Cell has increased against the corresponding period.
