Tea imports increases by 6.87 % in four months

ISLAMABAD: Tea imports during first four months of current financial year registered an increase of 6.87 percent as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of last year.

During the period from July-October, 2017-18 about 54,267 metric tons of tea worth US$184.212 million imported to fulfill the domestic requirements as compared the imports of 70,048 metric tons valuing of US$ 172.367 million of same period last year.

However, tea imports into the country on month on month basis reduced by 0.71 percent in month of October 2017 as compared the same month of last year, it added.

Meanwhile, import of milk cream and milk for infants increased by 1.50 percent as about 28,760 metric tons of the above mentioned commodity valuing US$ 81.328 million imported as compared the imports of 26,347 metric tons worth of US$ 80.126 million of same period of last year, it added.

Around 57,021 metric tons of dry fruit an nuts valuing US$ 64.750 million imported for domestic consumption as compared the import of 44,449 metric tons worth of US$ 54.467 million of same period of last year.

The country spent an amount of US$ 57.423 million on the imports of spices as around 58,645 metric tons spices imported as compared the import of 42,974 metric tons worth of US$ 41.694 million of same period of last year.

It may be recalled that food commodities imports into the country had recorded about 20 percent growth in last four months as food commodities worth US$ 2.198 million imported into the country as against the imports of US$ 1.828 billion of same period of last year, the data added.
