Pak Customs now better equipped to confront security challenges to global supplychain

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Customs this year is better equipped than ever to deal with the security challenges to the global supplychain.

The Chairman FBR, in his message, stated that it gives him pleasure that Pakistan Customs this year looks on better footing than ever to deal with the security challenges to the global supplychain.
He further stated that, with the increased automation and data analysis, now Customs could adopt a more targeted approach towards the enforcement and border security without compromising trade facilitation. The chairman emphasized more professional approach in line with the international best practices for more positive contribution by the Customs Officers and Officials.
On this occasion, Dr. Jawad Uwais Agha, Chief Collector of Customs (North), highlighted the importance of a secure and safe environment for the growth of businesses and economy of the country. He stressed the need for enabling environment to achieve the optimum results from international trade.
He stated that heavier flow of international cargo between Khunjerab to Gwadar Port under CPEC is expected in the coming months of this year. Here realtime tracking of vehicles and cargo are a necessity for security and integrity of the trading environs.

He said it is a duty of the customs officers and officials to support the WCO initiatives to counter attempts of illicit trade thus bringing about improvement in our governance, economy and national development.
To celebrate the International Customs Day, Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad arranged a function at Islamabad Dry Port. Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Tariq Mahmood Pasha was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Senior serving and retired Officers of Pakistan Customs, officers of other departments and agencies and representatives of trade also attended the function.
The International Customs Day marks the day of the first official meeting of the Customs Cooperation Council held in Brussels on 26th of January 1953. On the occasion of Customs Day, the World Customs Organization selects a new theme and slogan each year. These themes reflect the importance of a particular aspect of the Customs working environment. The theme of this year is “A secure business environment for economic development”.
