Multan Customs ASO detains two trucks loaded with NDP apples

MULTAN: Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized two trucks loaded with non-duty-paid foreign Origin fresh apples worth Rs 0.6 million in their action.

Sources told Customs Today that Multan Customs anti-smuggling squad received credible information from their source that huge quantity of foreign origin apples loaded on the various trucks will be transported from Jurisdiction. Multan Customs Assistant Collector Omer Zafar Chatha constituted special teams including Superintendent Habibur Rehman, Inspector Ghulam Asghar, Inspector Rana Mujtaba Noon and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling from jurisdiction.

Acting upon secret information, anti- smuggling squad enhanced the monitoring of the coming goods in the region and deployed more staff on the various routes to foil any bid of smuggling. Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted two suspected trucks near Muzaffargarh region through patrolling which were loaded with fresh apples coming from Baluchistan.

Customs teams asked both suspect truck drivers to produce the legal import documents of foreign Origin apples regarding their possession but they failed to do so. It was revealed that recovered apples were  non duty paid and being transported for selling in various markets of South Punjab but Customs teams  failed their attempt of smuggling. The net weight of the recovered apples were 15800 kilogram and it was packed in the various plastic crates.

Anti-Smuggling Organization shifted the detained fresh apples in the Multan Dry Port along with trucks. Recovered apples have been seized by Anti-Smuggling Organization under Customs Act 1969. Further investigations are still under way.
