MULTAN: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan has foiled the bid of smuggling various electronics goods in their action of worth Rs.2 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Khial Muhammad Khan received a tip off that smugglers are trying to smuggle electronic goods from through Muzaffargarh Region.
Deputy Director constituted special team immediately to foil their attempt of smuggling by enhancing the patrolling of customs staff and deploying intelligence staff at the various suspected routes to frustrate smugglers.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation staff strictly supervised suspicious goods to capture any smuggle goods and during their deployment they checked one suspicious container near Muzaffargarh which were loaded with various electronics goods including juicer blenders, chopper, iron, steam iron, roti maker, toast maker and other goods. Customs teams found 603 cartons of branded electronics goods and asked driver of container to produce import documents of the said electronics goods. The said branded electronic goods were coming from Karachi and its destination was Lahore.
Said importer M/s West Point provided import documents of recovered electronics goods to field Intelligence staff of Multan and during the verification import documents were proved unauthentic.
Then Customs Intelligence and Investigation staff decided to seize branded electronic items after verification of import documents of said importer.
The total value of seized foreign origin electronics goods were approximately worth Rs.2 million and duty taxes of Rs1.5 million. Further investigations regarding the seizure of electronics goods are still underway till.
