Customs Court seeks charge sheet against suspects in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed investigation officer to complete investigations and submit a charge sheet against Mehmood Ansir, owner of M/s Al-Noor Enterprises, directors/ partners/ CEO of M/s Arrow Transport Logistic (Private) Limited and others. The suspects were booked in a betel nuts smuggling case.

According to details, the the suspects smuggled the betel nuts in the garb of miscellaneous goods and also avoided duties and taxes through mis-declaration.

During the hearing, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East submitted another first information report and informed the court that during the investigation, it is established that aforesaid importers and their bonded carrier M/s Arrow Transport Logistic have deliberately mis-declared description of the Networking cable, Cable RG-11, glassware assorted, mini mobile speaker, glass beads, soap for replacement thereof with others ones en route to the final destination, with the intent to get illegal clearance of the 25000 kilograms valuing of Rs3,907,514 and also evading legitimate amount of duties and taxes to the tune of Rs3,532,550.

He further Submitted that a gang of culprits is engaged since long in illegal removal of the imported transshipment goods en route to final destination in an organized manner, consequent upon approval of the competent authority, this first information report is lodged accordingly for in-depth investigation into the matter. After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to complete investigation including arrest of suspect involved in this crime and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
