NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa arrests CEO of M/s Jan Builder in Rs 9 billion scam

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday arrested the chief executive officer of M/s Jan Builders in the billion rupees corruption scam.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa NAB has already arrested Principal Appraiser Shahid Akbar, Appraiser Abdul Hadi and Appraiser Hidayat Ullah of Customs Dry Port Peshawar and Muhammad Arafat Vice President JS Bank Karachi in the instant case and their bail petitions are rejected by the courts.

It was revealed that as per Import policy 2016, import of used vehicles for more than five years was completely banned. However, the suspect, Jameel Ahmad Jan, being importer, in connivance with officials of Custom Dry Port, Peshawar and JS Bank Karachi, planned to clear 1450x construction machinery illegally and in violation of applicable rules.

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa arrested accused Jameel Ahmad Jan, CEO M/s Jan Builder Peshawar allegedly involved in corruption & corrupt practices and causing huge loss of approximately Rs 9 billion to customs exchequer.

The accused persons, while in connivance with each other, illegally managed to clear 488 old machinery worth more than Rs 600 million as assessed by the department, whereas market value of the same is more than Rs. 3 billion in complete violation of Import Policy 2016. In this way, so far colossal loss of more than Rs. 9 billion has been caused to the government exchequer.

The customs officials informed Customs Today that such malpractices have caused a loss of billions to the customs kitty for which strict rulings may be passed in order block the way for such practices in future.

The appraiser of the Customs Dry Port Peshawar already in the custody of NAB KP which has led to the arrest of M/S Jan Builder and further attempts under way to identify such importers who had benefited from the same import policy.
