LAHORE: Advisor to Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar has said that he is aware of the reservations of local fresh milk producers and termed the processors proposal as against the interest of dairy farmers.
Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) will plead its grievances with Haroon Akhtar in a meeting at FBR House in Islamabad today (Wednesday) over budget proposals 2018-19.
The dairy processors including top managements of multinationals aim to push the government to reduce duty on milk powder import to just 5 percent from 45 percent.
The dairy processors are vying for this drastic reduction, while linking it with the purchase of fresh milk from local farmers. On the other hand, local dairy farmers said any relaxation in duty on import of milk and whey powder would be a sheer injustice to them.
