The dairy processors including top managements of multinationals aim to push the government to reduce duty on milk powder import to just 5 percent from 45 percent.

The dairy processors are vying for this drastic reduction, while linking it with the purchase of fresh milk from local farmers. On the other hand, local dairy farmers said any relaxation in duty on import of milk and whey powder would be a sheer injustice to them.
