ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad took into possession 500 cartons of Indian and Egyptian origin goods along with a passenger bus.
The sources of the ASO Islamabad told CT that, on secret information of Irfan-ul-Rehman, Collector MCC Islamabad, the ASO Islamabad intercepted a passenger bus coming from Peshawar to Pindi on GT Road and found a huge quantity of imported smuggled items.
The ASO staff asked the possessors of the bus to show GDs of goods loaded inside the vehicle but he failed to provide any evidence of theimport of the items.
After the searching, the ASO staff impounded 500 cartons of Indian smuggled goods comprising Indian vatika oil, shaving blades, Egyptian bath soaps and padlocks worth Rs1.00million along with an offending vehicle valued at Rs1.5million. The staff brought them to the state warehouse where an FIR was registered against the smuggler. The case was farwareded to the I&I section for further action.
The ASO staff, executing the action, consisted of Superintendent Abid Hussan, Inspector Hafeez and other staff of the Class V.
Talking about the performance of the ASO during first three quarters (July to March) FY17-18, the sources told the correspondent that the ASO Islamabad took into possession 156 offending vehicles priced at Rs185.27million while it impounded 31 Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) vehicles worth Rs126.84million during the said duration.
