Multan Customs seizes sulphonic acid during special operation

MULTAN: Customs Collectorate of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has foiled bid to smuggle huge quantity of foreign origin sulphonic acid in their action.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Ambreen Ahmed Tarar received received credible information from her source that foreign origin chemicals will be transported through their way.

She immediately constituted a anti smuggling squad under the supervision Deputy Collector Saqibur Rehman including Superintendent Habibur-Rehman, Inspector Rana Ghulam Mujtaba Noon, Inspector Waqas Hameed , Inspector Abdul Sattar and others to foil bid of smuggling chemicals.

Anti smuggling squad intercepted the two Hino trucks from Ghazi Ghaat near Dera Ghazi Khan region in their action. During the examination of suspected trucks they were loaded with foreign origin chemical which was identified as sulphonic acid after inspection. Sulphonic acid was filled in 205 different plastic drums. Customs teams asked drivers of said trucks who was later identified as Shafiullah and resident of Quetta and Abdul Sattar of Qila Saifullah  to produce import documents of loaded chemicals on truck for its legal possession.

The drivers of imported chemical consignment were failed to provide required documents needed for import of said chemicals which were consumed in the industrial manufacturing of goods. It was also revealed that said chemicals were coming through Balochistan and their destination was South Punjab. Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized the sulphonic acid and formed seizure report against said seized chemicals. The net value of the seized chemical is almost Rs.5.5 million in their action.

Customs Anti-smuggling Organization has also detain both Hino trucks which was being used for transportation of this chemical. Further investigations are still under process.
