Customs recovers huge quantity of Indian origin bananas worth Rs8.7m

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate Preventive has seized a huge quantity of smuggled fresh bananas (Indian origin) recovered from a Bedford truck during checking on Koral Islamabad Check Point.

According to details, Customs team during checking intercepted the Bedford truck bearing registration no: DNB-2287, coming from Rawalpindi and recovered huge quantity of fresh bananas (Indian origin) having worth of Rs8.7 million.

On demand of Customs team the driver failed to produce any documentary evidence showing legal import or lawful possession of the goods which is a violation of the section 2(s) & 16 of the Customs Act 1969 and section 3(1) of the Import and Export (Control) Act. 1950.

Therefore the customs team arrested the driver Aftab Ahmed and seized the smuggled goods with the vehicle under section 168 of Customs Act, 1969 and. Customs Preventive also registered case against registered owner of the goods was later identified as Shoukat resident of Azad Kashmir and sent the case to the adjudication department for further proceedings.
