Sources said WAPDA had laid a cemented water pipeline of 54 inches diameter from Rawal dam filtration plant in 1960. Wapda had closed this pipeline permanently when WASA laid 54 inches diameter water pipeline made of steel to fetch water from Rawal dam filtration plant during 2003-4. With the passage of time demand of water supply increased but WASA had no fund to lay a second steel made pipeline. Therefore, WASA has decided to make this dysfunctional cemented water pipeline operational again. Video logging of this shut pipeline has been got done. 90 percent repair work on this pipeline has been completed. Water supply will continue to citizens of Rawalpindi from this pipeline within a few months.
