ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday has issued notice to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi Department on a petition filed by M/s Hunbel Tex Private Limited.
According to details, the petitioner submitted that the goods imported by the petitioner company have been detained by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi for the past more than three months.
During preliminary hearing of the case the counsel from the petitioner prayed that the Customs I&I detained the imported goods under classification for the inquiry purpose, while the petitioner company is bearing the consequences in the terms of financial loss.
The petitioner also requested the court to issue a notice to the customs department and conduct detailed inquiry and discharge the FIR against the petitioner. The court while preliminary hearing admitted the case for further hearing and has issued a notice to Customs I&I Rawalpindi to file a detailed report and present to the Court.
Meanwhile, the Customs I&I sources told Customs Today that it will engage its counsel for the next hearing to be held on 18th May to contest case as the M/s Hunbul Tex (Pvt) Ltd Lahore evaded Rs14.962 million of duty & taxes by mis-declaring its description, value and PCT heading.
Sources said that the plastic canes do not bear any name of manufactures, technical details of material and country of origin and as per knowledge, there is no plant in the name of M/s Hunbul preparing such state-of-the-art ink in Europe, it means the importer deliberately removed the original stickers to mis-declare the description.
It is also important to mention here that Customs I&I Rawalpindi registered an FIR No.10/2018 against the said Company and also involved Customs Principal Appraiser Tahir Khan is involved in illegal clearance of consignment, but both the accused got bail from the Customs Court.
