Customs Export recovers evaded amount of Rs9.26m from defaulter companies

KARACHI: The Customs Export has recovered evaded amount of taxes and duties of Rs 9.26 million from defaulter companies which were issued with notices to pay the outstanding dues.

Sources told Customs Today that during scrutiny of the import data, it was revealed that M/s Quality Pipes and Sanitary Store availed undue benefits and concessions by importing two consignments of different sanitary hard pipes by misusing the SRO 552 through Examiner Amir Siddique on January 11, 2017.

Sources said that the company was allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs 5.59 million. Investigations were continued, after detecting the tax evasion; the Customs Export issued it with a final notice on 2nd May, 2018 to deposit the evaded amount within 14 days.

After receiving the notice, the management of M/s Quality Pipes and Sanitary Store deposited the evaded amount in the official account of the Customs Export on 22nd May.

Sources said that the management of the M/s Wajanti Traders also cleared Rs 3.67 million of taxes and duties. Sources said that M/s Wajanti Traders also availed undue benefits and concessions and avoided paying taxes according to the customs bylaws.

The Customs Export authorities served on it a final notice on 4th May, 2018, management of the M/s Wajanti Traders deposited the evaded amount of taxes on 21th May.
