MULTAN: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Saima Ayyaz has issued order-in-original (ONO) in favour of the Multan Customs by declaring the seizure of 21 foreign origin liquor bottles as legal.
According to details, Multan Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) recovered foreign-origin smuggled liquor bottles of different brands in their various actions.
Customs Air Freight Unit staff during the course of checking of passengers recovered several bottles of liquor including Johnnie Walker, Red Label blended Scotch Whisky, Grants blended, Xie Shjio, Vodka were found from conveyor belt and liquor were packed in the shopping bags. The said liquor was recovered after a flight from Dubai arrived at Multan International Airport.
The customs officials seized liquor after adopting all legal formalities and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings taking stance that the seized foreign liquor bottles were prohibited and brought into country without payment of duty and taxes.
In the light of facts it is clear that the seized goods foreign liquor bottles are restricted items and brought into the country illegally, thus the same are liable to confiscation in favour of Customs Adjudication under the relevant customs law.
During the hearing of the case, no one claimed ownership of liquor and nobody appeared before the deputy collector to defend the case or submit any reply.
Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz issued order-in-original after trial and declare that the seized goods falls under the ambit of Section 2(s) of the Customs Act, 1969 read with current import policy order.
It is therefore, established that the respondent have nothing to defend against the allegation framed in the show cause notice. Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz has also decided three other seizure cases of liquor and on the basis of facts confiscated the bottles of liquor.
