ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized 7,000-kilogram of smuggled Indian-origin cloth along with a ten-wheeler truck. The estimated value of seized items is Rs8 million.
Assistant Collector Majid Hussain Gaad told Customs Today that Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary received information about smuggling attempts. He immediately directed to enhance vigilance. An ASO team was constituted under the supervision of Superintendent Malak Abid Hussain and Farrukh Sati along with supportive customs staff which established a check post near Barakhu.
The assistant collector said that after chasing, the ASO staff intercepted a 10-wheeler truck bearing registration No. TK-172 loaded with Indian-origin garments which were being smuggled in the garb of Intra-Kashmir trade.
Majid said that the seized garments included ladies suits, cotton cloths, ladies shawls. He said the total value of seized cloth is Rs6 million approximately, while weight of seized goods is 7,719 kilograms; whereas, the value of seized offending vehicles is Rs2 million.
The assistant collector said that offending vehicle belonged to M/s Pindi Caravan Forwarding Agency owned by Shakeel Satti alias Shakeel Phapa. He said that an FIR has been lodged in Investigation and Prosecution branch against Shakeel Satti and others.
