M/s Salam Trading moves SHC seeking restoration of ST registration

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to consider the request of the petitioner for restoration of sales tax registration in accordance with law on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Salam Trading Company seeking restoration of its sales tax registration.

On Thursday, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi heard the matter, the court also issued pre-admission notices to the FBR officials directing them to file their respective comments on next date of hearing.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that it is engaged in the lawful import of general items and fulfills all the liabilities according with law; however, commissioner Inland Revenue Zone-I RTO-III issued a show-cause notice to the petitioner and suspended its sales tax registration and allegation was fixed that it was involved in sales tax evasion.

Citing Secretary Ministry of Finance, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue and others as respondents, he pleaded that allegations are baseless therefore, the court may restore its sales tax registration and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner till final order in this petition.
