Customs recovers 700 bottles of alcohol from Allama Iqbal Airport

LAHORE: The Customs officials deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport confiscated as many as 700 alcohol bottles and number of mobile phones from passengers travelling via different flights during raids in the month of June at Allama Iqbal International Airport during different operations.

Sources told Customs Today that these officers conducted operations in different flights from different countries.

Most of the passengers were travelling to Lahore from America, Australia, England and other European countries.

Customs team conducted these operations in flights which were arrived from London to Lahore, Turkey to Lahore, New York to Lahore and Sydney to Lahore. Customs took action in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Turkish Airways flight, Gulf Air.

It is pertinent to mention here that 500 bottles were confiscated only in four days of Eidul Fitr. Mobile phones were also confiscated from different passengers while in June total recovery of alcohol bottles reached at 700 which is highest number in one month. While customs team allowed all passengers to go after confiscation of alcohol bottles from their possession.

The security officers have launched an investigation into the matter. Customs has started strict checking of the luggage of the passengers specially coming from European countries. Smuggling attempts are being foiled by the customs authorities.
