Colombo: Sri Lanka Customs officials at the Colombo International Airport in Katunayake have arrested a Chinese woman when she attempted to illegally smuggle in a stock of gems worth Rs 4.8 million.
The 35-year-old Chinese woman, has arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Bangkok last night.
The Customs officials have found 18 large gems and 13 parcels containing a large number of smaller gems in each concealed in her luggage.
The Customs confiscated the gem stones and the woman was fined Rs 40,000.
