Quetta I&I foils bid to smuggle surgical goods worth Rs7.25m on Friday

QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation on Friday foiled a bid to smuggle surgical items, include electronic wheel chairs and other goods worth Rs7.25 million during checking.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle surgical items, include electronic wheel chairs and other things from Quetta tor Karachi.

He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Imran Sheikh of Preventive department and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Kuchlak Road highway and started searching vehicles.

During the search operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: YDG-0276 which was heading towards Karachi.

During the checking, the customs team recovered 500 sets of steel surgical trays, digital thermometers, 5000 piece of digital sugar test machines and 150 pieces of electronic wheel chairs worth Rs7.25 million.

The customs team seized all smuggling items and arrested two smugglers. Further investigations are still in process till the filing of this report.
