Customs Export recovers evaded amount of Rs9.47m from M/s Urooj Embroidery & M/s Safdar Marble & Garnite

KARACHI: Collector Customs Export Saqif Saeed on Friday recovered evaded amount of Rs 9.47 million taxes and duties from two companies i.e. M/s Urooj Embroidery and another company M/s Safdar Marble & Granite, Karachi.

Sources told Customs Today on July 18 that during scrutiny of the import data, it was revealed that M/s Urooj Embroidery availed undue benefits and concessions by importing a consignment of sewing machines parts and motors by misusing the SRO 546. The consignment was cleared through Examiner Rana Shakeel on January 21, 2018.

Sources said that the company was allegedly involved in tax evasion of Rs6 million. The Customs Export started investigations after detecting the tax evasion and issued a final notice on June 28, 2018 to the company to deposit the evaded amount within 14 days.

After receiving the notice, the management of M/s Urooj Embroidery deposited the evaded amount in the official account of the Customs Export on July 20, 2018.

While the management of M/s Safdar Marble & Granite also cleared Rs 3.47 million amount of taxes and duties. Sources said that M/s Safdar Marble & Granite also availed undue benefits and concessions and avoided paying taxes according to the customs bylaws.

The Customs Export authorities served t a final notice on June 27, 2018. The management of M/s Safdar Marble & Granite deposited the evaded amount after receiving the final notice in this regard.
