PCG submits another FIR of betel nuts smuggling case in Customs Court

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Syed Muhammad Akbar son of Syed Khuda Nazar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 15775 kilogram betel nuts, on physical remand.

On August 7, 2018, Investigation Officer Muhammad Mehmood, of Pakistan Coast Guards produced the above mentioned suspect before the court along with First Information Report and informed that on credible information, officials of the Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted Hino truck bearing registration number TLS-913 and during the search, officials recovered 15,775 kilograms betel nuts from truck.

He submitted that on the spot, officials asked him to produce legal documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, the said goods and truck were taken into custody and accused was also taken into custody.

He said that prosecution needs further investigations from the said suspect; therefore, the court may send him back to customs lock-up on physical remand. After the hearing, court sent him on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against above mentioned suspects for violation of under Section 2 (s) and 16, 156 (1) (8) (89) and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
