Quetta I&I foils bid to smuggle non-duty paid goods worth Rs9.50m

QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle imported non-duty paid electronics items including refrigerator and washing machine worth Rs 9.50 million during special checking on Friday.

Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non-duty paid electronic items from Quetta to Karachi to Hyderabad.

He constituted a raiding team under supervision of Inspector Ibraheem Waseem, Qayyum Shah and others. The team enhanced the surveillance near Quetta’s Shah Waleed check post and started searching of vehicles.

During the search operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: GBS-9973 which was going outside of Quetta. During the checking, the customs team recovered 50 new branded refrigerators, more than 80 automatic washing machines, different kinds of A/C split parts, 10 roll of copper wire and more than 100 LED TV screen worth Rs 9.50 million including truck being used in smuggling. The customs team seized all the goods and arrested three smugglers.

Sources said that further investigations are still in progress till filing of this report.
