Appraisement East files FIR against M/s Waseem Enterprises in mis-declaration of perfumes

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Waseem, proprietor of M/s Waseem Enterprises, to customs department on physical remand.

The suspect is booked in a case of evasion of duties and taxes on import of high-end branded perfumes.

On November 16, 2018, investigation officer of Appraisement East produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court along with First Information Report (FIR) and informed that the said suspects imported a consignment and declared as 224 Dec-Unit Deodorant Body spray UAE branded value of $464/kg. 44 Dec-Dnit Eua De-Toilet Spray un-branded value of $102.272/kg. 248 Liquid Cleaner un-branded value of $ 1.612/kg. 2 Dec. Unit Air Freshener UAE branded value of US$37.7/kg.

He further submitted that during the examination, customs officials found the consignment as 1,505 kilograms (net contents) assorted high-end branded perfumes of France/UK/USA origin etc, value of $82,790 as per Valuation Ruling No 861/2016 dated 06/6/2016 and evaded the duty and taxes in the tune of Rs13,660,350.

He said that the evasion of duties and taxes on import of high-end branded perfumes through mis-declaration of description quantity, brands, origins and value in the grab of low priced toiletries.

Investigation officer stated that prosecution needs further investigations from arrested suspect namely Muhammad Waseem; therefore, the court may send him to physical remand. After hearing, the court granted his physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of Section 32A, 79, 121 and 192 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 14-A, 43, 44, 45, 63 and 86 of Section 156(1) ibid read with allied laws and procedure.
