Local man fined for not declaring 200 mobile phones at Hong Kong customs

Macau: A local man, surnamed Chen and aged 59 years of age, was fined for carrying 200 old mobile phones of the same model when trying to enter Hong Kong customs at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal on the evening on November 15.

According to a release from Macau Customs Service, the man had entered the green lane signifying he had “nothing to declare” but upon examination, he was found carrying the phones which are worth up to MOP380,000 (US$47,104.60) without any proper documentation.

The man was found guilty of violating the provisions of the Foreign Trade Law No. 7/2003, which may see him fined MOP10,000 to MOP50,000.

The seized mobile phones are declared as property of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

The Macau Customs Service reminds residents that any article intended for import and export is subject to Foreign Trade Law, and that anyone carrying such goods should declare them at customs.
