Customs Court directs I&P to complete probe against accused involved in gold smuggling

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling directed the customs investigation and prosecution team to complete investigations against the accused Mohammad Azeem who is involved in smuggling of 8.5 kilograms of gold.

On 20.11.2018, the customs court sent Muhammad Azeem to jail and directed the Customs team to complete investigations and submit final challan during the next hearing. The court said that investigation must be completed as soon as possible to reach to the consequences of the smuggling case.

Earlier the  Customs officials deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle gold of Rs 45 million and arrested a couple arrived from Dubai via Emirates Airlines flight no: EK-622.

Customs team recovered 9.5 kilograms of gold from Muhammad Azeem and Saima Sharif. Gold was hidden in belts around the body of Saima Sharif. Customs team on their suspicious activities intercepted them and searched their luggage while lady officer searched the smuggler lady and recovered a huge quantity of gold. Customs team after filing FIR against the couple started investigations.
