FBR issues notices to 1.22m taxpayers facing audit cases

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued notices to at least 1.22 million taxpayers whose audit cases are pending with FBR under Section 214-D of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, FBR sources told Customs Today.

According to official sources, the board has issued notices to 0.3 million of taxpayers whose audit cases are pending since tax year 2015, 0.4 million taxpayers cases belong to tax year 2016, 0.2 million are pending since 2017 while at least 0.428 million are those taxpayers who are submitting income tax returns with zero tax paid, however, they are still in active taxpayers list. The board has issued notices and directed them to close their audit cases, sources confirmed.

Sources also told that the board has focused to close the pending audit cases which are pending since last 4 years and for this purpose the board has also announced a scheme and directed the taxpayers to pay fines and extra taxes to close their pending cases. The board has now also issued the notice mentioning this facility to taxpayers, sources added.

It is important to mention here that the board has already directed the all field formations to take steps under Section 161 and 162 pertaining to withholding tax audit and collect extra revenue in order to recover the shortfall faced by the board in the current fiscal year.
