Customs Court approves bail of suspects booked in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Muhammad Anis Khan, Siraj Khan and Raaj Malook, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid 10,000 liters HSD.

On December 12, 2018, counsel for accused filed bail petition and argued that their clients are innocents and were falsely implicated in this case, applicants are ready to face trial, therefor court may grant their bail.

After hearing, the court granted their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed them to appear before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the investigation officer, during the search, a team of customs intercepted a Hino water tanker bearing registration number: TUD-248 and Toyota Corolla car bearing registration number: AJC-922 and recovered 10,000 liters HSD.

He further submitted that during the search, they were asked to produce lawful documents; however, they failed to produce any lawful documents; therefore, they were arrested and goods and vehicles were taken into custody.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of 2 (s), 156(2), 157(2) and 178 of customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses (8) (89) of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
