Lawyers attack ASO team for detaining non-Customs paid Toyota Surf jeep

LAHORE: Lawyers attacked Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) team that detained non- customs paid Jeep from the possession of a lawyer.

Sources told Customs Today that lawyers manhandling the customs ASO team snatched the detained illegal Surf jeep from the custody of Customs official in front of the Customs House.

Sources said the Surf jeep was detained by the Customs inspectors near Saddiq Trade Center on a tip-off. Unidentified lawyer telephoned his fellow lawyers who gathered in front of the Customs House.

As soon as the detained jeep was brought to the Customs House by the Customs inspectors, the lawyers attacked the Customs ASO team, manhandled them and snatched the non-customs paid Surf jeep.

Sources said that lawyers tortured one of the inspectors Shahid Salim and also punched and kicked the official van of Customs.

The sources also said that the lawyers threatened of the dire consequences to the Customs officers. Customs top authorities are mulling to register an FIR against the lawyers.

However, till the filing of the news story, no FIR was launched against the lawyers. Collector Customs Faiz Ahmed, however, was not available for his comments on the story.
