FAISALABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs7.9 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs3.7 million during an action.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Rana Irfan Shouqat received information regarding smuggling attempt after which he formed a team under the supervision of Superintendent Muhammad Tahir Iqbal.
The team comprising Intelligence Officer Chaudhary Saeed Hayat Muhammad Arshad, Ansar Saleemi, Lower Division Clerk Sikander Ali, Sepoy Liaqat Ali Wasli, Shouqat Hayat, Muzammil Hussain, Zeeshan Farooq, Muhammad Rafique and Israr Ahmed and others intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no: TLB-490 near Sargodha road Kamalpur Interchange Faisalabad.
During checking, the officials recovered a huge quantity of school bags. The items were being transported to Peshawar from Faisalabad.
The officials asked the driver of the vehicle namely Ali Khan to show document regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same. Therefore the officials confiscated the items under customs laws after making a seizure report. All items have been deposited to Faisalabad State Warehouse.
Intelligence Superintendent Tahir Iqbal said that vigilance has been enhanced on roads against the movement of smuggled items and vehicles through this region. They added that the department is striving to eliminate the menace of smuggling by taking all possible measures.
