Customs ASO impounds Rs40m smuggled cloth near Shahdara

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized huge quantity of illegally imported Rs 40 million foreign origin cloth.

As per details, Collector Ahmed Rauf received credible information about smuggling attempt. He directed Deputy Collector Naveedur Rehman Baghvi to enhance checking on entry and exit points of the city. The ASO team under the supervision of Superintendent Nasir Tarar intercepted two trucks near Shadraha coming from Peshawar.

During checking process, the ASO team recovered huge quantity of foreign origin cloth. The ASO team asked for legal documents for import and transportation of loaded cloth but they remained failed. After their failure ASO team arrested three accused persons. Case has been registered and further investigations are underway.

It is necessary to mention here that after assuming the charge Collector Customs Preventive Ahmed Rauf directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling.
