KARACHI: The Customs Court accepted interim challan and granted bail to suspects Alam Shah, Muhammad Ameen, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid artificial imitation jewelry, hair accessories etc.
On March 22, 2019, counsel for the accused argued that his clients are innocent and falsely implicated in this case who are ready to face trial, therefore, court may grant them bail till final order in this case.
After the hearing, court approved their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed them to appear on next date of hearing for confirmation or otherwise.
Earlier, investigation officer produced them before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted one Nissan trailer bearing registration no Z-2063 and during the search, customs team found 390 cartons containing assorted artificial imitation/artificial jewelry made in India 19595 kilograms valuing Rs15,911,140, 150 cartons, containing assorted hair accessories, hair pins assorted color, design & seize, made in India, 3800 kilograms worth Rs1,649,200 from the said Nissan trailer.
He argued that during the raid, suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, customs team seized goods and suspects were also taken into custody.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
