FBR shows displeasure on poor performance regarding foreign currency seizures

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) expressed displeasure on poor performance of foreign origin currency seizures worth Rs 28.254 million made by various Model Customs Collectorates during first 9 months of FY18-19.

According to details provided to Customs Today, it was clearly mentioned as subject that “currency seizures during July 2018 to March 2019 are unsatisfactory regarding FATF matters”.

It was notified that Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Multan International Airport made only 03 seizures worth Rs 3.5 million while arrested 02 persons during said period. The MCC Quetta made 04 seizures of foreign origin currency at Customs check post Yaroo and the other at Customs House Chaman worth Rs 12.766 million while 02 persons were arrested.

The MCC Preventive Karachi at Jinnah International Airport made just one seizure worth Rs 5.721 million while no accused arrested. The MCC Preventive at Lahore Airport made 12 seizures of foreign origin currency during above-mentioned period worth Rs6.166 million. The document showed that Lahore Preventive arrested 10 persons found involved in money laundering of little amounts.
