Customs Court approves physical remand of suspects in gold smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Farida Bano, Sana Tufail and Muhammad Tufail Junani to customs department on physical remand, arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 4,517 grams gold worth Rs 31,176,334.

On July 1, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced them before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted the above-mentioned suspects, who were leaving for USA via Dubai by M/s Emirates Airlines and they were asked to declare if they are carrying any contraband goods in their baggage.

He further submitted that on their negative reply they were taken to search room along with lady preventive officer for carrying out personal search of lady passengers, accordingly lady passenger namely Farida Bano was taken to search room which resulted in the recovery of 16 lady bangles said to be gold worn by her in both arms.

He said that after this development the personal search of passenger namely Muhammad Tufail Junani was conducted by the undersigned in presence of musheers which yielded the recovery of 2  men’s bangles (kara) said to be gold coated with silver cover worn by him in right arm and right ankle.

Investigation officer further informed the court that accused persons named above in collusion with Imran Usman Dumba had attempted to smuggle the seized gold ornaments and seized gold ornaments were provided by absconding accused namely Imran Usman Dumba, further, investigation is respect of Imran Usman Dumba who is behind this crime is underway, therefore, court may send above mentioned suspects for physical remand.

After the hearing, court sent them to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.
